Sustainable Development - What is it?

Sustainable Development (SD) is a tongue-twisting phrase that is used throughout the world by educators, businesses, governments, and environmental groups to describe the balance between continued economic growth, environmental protection, and social responsibility.

The idea of SD is to set a real agenda for change to proactively, and collectively, ensure a better quality of life today, and for future generations. The task of keeping these seemingly competing objectives of environmental stewardship, business and economic growth, and making our community a better place to live and raise our children is daunting; but it is imperative that we cooperatively work to find ways to meet these challenges.

Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery is committed to Sustainable Development and as you explore this web site, we hope you will better understand the breadth and depth of our efforts, and avail yourself of the opportunities to join in developing solutions to the challenges we face in preserving our collective future.
